    O N E

On Sunday we took our annual fall family pictures and while I actually hate preparing and taking the pictures, I absolutely love having them to document our family over the years. Let’s take a look back at each year and how our family has grown. 🙂

    baby Shane in there!

and a sneak peak from Sunday!

Aw it makes me so emotional to see these pictures and how much our family has grown! I don’t take a moment of it for granted. I’m so thankful to have this sweet family of mine.

Another favorite this week, and always, is Shane and Riley’s love for Melanie. They are so sweet with her and are completely obsessed. It’s so much better and more special than I could have ever imagined. The only downside is that now that it’s fall and winter season, I’m worried about how to keep her healthy. This year and last, colds have been at an all time high. RSV this year is crazy. I can’t keep these boys out of Melly’s face, which is so sweet but also so scary because it seems impossible to keep their germs to themselves. We are really trying to figure out how to navigate this this season. Melly has already had her first cold and she’s only 8 weeks old. 😢 Please pray for us for wisdom and health this season. ❤️

Dressing this girl up has been for sure a favorite of mine! I’m not what you would consider a girly girl. But dressing her in adorable clothes has been so much fun after having two boys. I didn’t even know what to buy for her before she was born because I’ve never dressed a baby girl. I quickly realized she was going to need some adorable cardigans and tights so I quickly took to Amazon and found these really good quality tights. I also bought these cardigans from H&M because I just couldn’t resist! I’m enjoying how adorable she’s looking in dresses, bows, and all of the floral. I love the floral.

My organizational heart is loving these binders and getting to put them together for homeschool. We started the Gather ‘Round Letters and Numbers curriculum and we are absolutely loving it. It’s perfect for where Shane is at developmentally and he loves learning about the different animals every day. I love it because it has all of the subjects included so I don’t really need any other curriculum. I probably will add in some math eventually but for now it’s perfect. Shane is even really interested in the bible lessons, which I love. It’s written in such a way that is very engaging for 3-5 year olds.

Fall time and these boots. The temperatures here have gone back up (?) and I’m so thankful because it’s been so nice and so beautiful! I’m so not looking forward to winter this year. These boots are so cute though and they’re only $40. I had a pair from Payless (does anyone remember that store?!) that I had for probably ten years before they finally started falling apart on me. I knew I had to replace them and went to Amazon to see what I can find and found these ones and they’re almost identical. They’re honestly just better quality. They do still need some breaking in but I’m so glad I found them. I’m also really eyeing this simple fall sweatshirt and miiiight just have to buy it. Also who doesn’t need another cardigan?? I love the buttons on this one. You can never have enough in my opinion! The ultimate fall fashion.

Why We Are Choosing Not To Celebrate Halloween Anymore

It was a really hard decision but we decided this year that we will no longer be celebrating Halloween. Both Tommy and I grew up celebrating Halloween and we have since dressed up Shane each year since he was born. (Or most years anyway.) Last year was the first year that we brought him trick-or-treating though. We had a blast. It was such a good time, which makes this a harder decision to make. But it doesn’t make it any less important to make sure that we are doing the right thing.

Last year was the first year that I had learned that celebrating Halloween was even a little bit controversial as a Christian. An author/speaker that I follow on Instagram started speaking out about her convictions around the holiday and it made me a little nervous but honestly I didn’t take the time to sit down and watch what she had to say. I was curious but I sort of knew that if I took the time to listen that I would end up feeling convicted that I too shouldn’t celebrate. So I looked away, and prayed, and decided it was fine. Everyone else I knew celebrated anyway.

This year though, she started speaking out again and I knew I couldn’t ignore the call to listen again. I didn’t even listen to the whole Instagram Live and I knew that what she said just made too much sense to ignore. (If you’re interested in listening as well, you can watch here and here.)

Basically the reason behind why we no longer feel it is okay as Christians to celebrate Halloween is that the holiday originated from a place of worship of other gods. Mo goes into detail about how most Christians arguments for being okay with celebrating is that because of Jesus, we are permitted to do as we please essentially. That Jesus redeemed the holiday for us and we are free in him to celebrate as we want. However, this is not true because we are called to rebuke things that are not of God.

Halloween and it’s origins were never from God so there is no way to redeem it. We must rebuke the holiday completely. We can redeem the day but to be associated with any practices that are tied to the holiday would be wrong. If you’re interested in learning more about the origins and what type of evil practices that are still done on this day, this article really opened my eyes.

It can be easy to just go with the flow and not question things but I want to live a life that is honoring to God. God calls us to be set apart and this is just one of those ways that I feel we must be as Christians. I also had to remind myself that God doesn’t call us away from things because he wants us to miss out on fun things. He loves us too much to let us settle for less. God’s ways are higher than our ways and he calls us to better things.

We decided to bring the boys to the store and let them each pick out a big bag of candy and we had a little family game night that turned out to be really fun. They were thrilled to get to enjoy their candy and spend time together as a family. In the end it really didn’t feel like we were missing out and had a good time.

What are your thoughts on Halloween? Have you looked into the origin? Do you feel it’s something that Christians should be celebrating? I’m interested in hearing your thoughts.

    O N E

With my last two pregnancies, my feet grew about half a size. After I came home from the hospital after having Melanie, my sneakers didn’t even close to fit anymore. I’ve been wearing them for a month and my toes are absolutely killing me. I was planning on waiting until Christmas and asking for a new pair then but since my feet actually hurt, I don’t think waiting two months for new shoes is probably the best idea. So when I got an email from Honey during the Amazon Prime sale that my sneakers were 50% off I snagged them in a size up. I hadn’t realized how worn out my old shoes were until I put the new ones on. It’s like walking on clouds.

This fall weather has just been amazing. It got colder a lot faster than I was hoping for this year but it’s warmed up just a little bit and we’ve been able to get outside a little bit and have been thoroughly enjoying the crisp air and those picturesque views. 😍

I’ve been really enjoying reading a bit more the past week or so. This book has been really good so far even though it might not be the right season for it. I’m not even really into the meat of the story yet. I can already tell that once the story really picks up I’m not going to be able to put it down. I also read this book last week and I think it only took me 48 hours to finish. So so good.

We are slowly getting into a rhythm of homeschooling. Today we did this painting projects from the Target dollar spot for a little art project. I’m taking things very slowly since Shane is only four and we did just add a baby to our family. I’m trying to keep the pressure low but also trying to be disciplined as well. Homeschooling is a bit overwhelming at first but I’m looking forward to settling into more of a groove as time goes on. I’m really looking forward to so many things about it.

Speaking of taking advantage of the weather, we have gone fishing a couple times the past two weeks. I’m hoping to continue to make it a regular thing until the weather doesn’t allow it anymore because we all have been really enjoying it. So thankful to live right down the road from this little lake.

Reflections On Life With Three Kids

Where to even begin? It’s been over a year since I’ve posted on here. I haven’t been completely MIA on the internet world all year. If you’ve been following me on Youtube or on Instagram then you already know that we just had our third baby a little over a month ago. I shared many pregnancy updates over the past ten months over on Youtube, which I used to share on here.

Our sweet Melanie girl was born on September 7th, two days after her due date and I still can’t get over how perfect she is. The boys have just completely fallen head over heels with her and we are just so thankful God has chosen her to join our family.

As many of you probably know, there is a lot of reflecting that is done after a baby joins your family. The dynamics of just about everything changes, which can be challenging for a while. Obviously there is less time and less energy to be devoted to things that were once important.

So I’ve been doing just that. Reflecting on life now that we are a family of five. Reflecting on what it means to be a mom of three. I’m always trying to make sure that my priorities are in order and that God comes first and my family comes second. A lot of the time keeping family before anything else (besides God) is easy in this season of small children because small children demand their needs to be met. I’m unable to choose other things over them because they make sure that you are attentive to them and for that I am thankful even when it is hard.

But if I’m being honest, my heart isn’t always in the right place when it comes to meeting their needs. A lot of the time my heart is wanting to put other things first. I desire to have a life apart from just being a mom to small children. Sometimes I want that life a little more than I should, I think.

I desire to “have it all” just like I believe so many others. I want to follow God first, love my family well, be able to keep my house in order always, and have a thriving online business that pays the bills as well. I have believed the lie that most of the people I follow online are doing all of these things. I’ve learned slowly over the years that it’s just not true. Not everyone has or does it all. And more importantly, if I’m keeping God first, that just might not be (and probably isn’t) the life that God has planned for me.

So that leads me to where I am now. A new mom to three. Trying to figure out what I should spend my energy on these days. And it’s really hard. But I’ve learned to slow down and try to hear God’s voice above it all. And the funny thing is he’s really there. He really will guide you if you seek him first.

So in an effort to fight against the temptation to put anything above my family in this season, I’ve decided to let myself have a little fun with blogging and making videos. I’ve decided to resist the urge to try to grow any platform to make money off of it. If I feel like sharing in a blog post something we’ve been doing or something I’ve been learning then I will. But I will no longer be putting pressure on myself to show up on any online space because I feel it does the opposite anyway and burns me out.

I’m hoping this will cause me to want to share more and show up more but who knows? Life with three kids is busy. Here’s to hoping! I’ve got lots to share about what God’s been teaching me, if I can just find the time. And energy. 😉

I’m hoping to share on Youtube similar things that I want to write about here, just in a different form. I’m remembering that I like to be able to explain in longer form (aka writing) things that I’ve been processing. I’ve missed it. I would like to share Melanie’s birth story on the blog even though I will also be doing a video as well. Here’s to having fun and showing up.

If anyone is still around reading this, please let me know if there is anything specific that you like to hear about from me. It would be really helpful!

    My NEW Youtube Channel!!

Hey friends! I just wanted to drop by really quickly and share that I did a thing! I started a Youtube channel!! 😱 Watching Youtube has been one of my very favorite things to do to relax ever since becoming a mom. I love how relatable the people on Youtube can be and it really makes me feel less alone in my day to day life.

I’ve always thought about starting a Youtube channel but was always too scared to actually do it. I felt like I wasn’t “good enough”. I honestly didn’t think I would ever actually do it either, but Tommy has been a huge supporter of mine and has really pushed me to do it and believed in me and it has really given me the confidence to finally just do it. And now ever since posting my first video, I realized that it was all just in my head. Anyone can document their life in video form and post it online.. there aren’t qualifications lol.

So that’s my new endeavor. It’s been really fun filming the first video and brainstorming ideas for new ones. The first video isn’t the best video but we all have to start somewhere right? I filmed a morning in my life where I was preparing my house for my grandparents to come over so it’s a little morning/cleaning routine of sorts.

    Thanks for following along. 🙂

Riley’s First Birthday + A Little Lake George Vacation

Hi friends! Long time no talk! Things got a little crazy around here and when that happens the blog is usually one of the first things to go. I want to write another post about what we’ve been up to the past two months but before I do that I want to recap Riley’s first birthday and party and a little vacation we went on.

    July 13th

On July 13th it was Riley’s actual birthday and we got to celebrate together as a family of four. We baked Riley a cake and sang to him together. He enjoyed it thoroughly.

    Our Birthday Boy!

    July 15th

A few days after Riley’s birthday we drove up to Lake George for a little mini vacation. Tommy has been going up to the lake since he was a baby (and so has his dad). It’s really fun to pass the tradition down to our boys too. Fun fact: If you haven’t been around here for a while, Tommy actually lived up at Lake George for a bit while we were dating. Here’s a fun post from back then. 🙂

Tommy’s brother and parents were up at the lake too so the boys got to spend lots of time with their cousins. Tommy’s brother has two boys that are just about the same ages as our boys so its a lot of fun.

Trying to get pictures of these boys together is quite the feat now. 😅 This was the best I could do!

    July 18th

We came home from the lake on Saturday afternoon and had Riley’s party on Sunday! It was a lot of fun and as you can see, Riley thoroughly enjoyed his cake!

I forgot to take more pictures but I did get this one. I did a safari animal theme and the decorations turned out so cute! We had a lion made out of peppers, carrots, and humus, ants on a log made out of celery, peanut butter, and raisins, animal crackers, “jungle juice” aka sangria, and bananas “money treats”. It turned out to be so cute and we had a great time!

Even Noelley made it into the picture!

So that’s a little bit about where we’ve been the past week or so. I will be writing a post soon about what we’ve been doing the rest of the time I’ve been off blogging. Hint: it’s quite a bit of home projects and also there was a big change to our work as well! Can’t wait to share more! Be back soon!
