    Friday Favorites | Vol. 10

Happy Friday, friends! I have some fun things to share today so let’s jump right in. 🙂

    These cups

Not the best picture but these cups are soo cute! I bought them at Target a few weeks ago and have been loving using them all day.

It adds just a little bit of summer to my day, which makes me happy. They are also deceivingly bigger than they look. They hold 20oz of water!

Speaking of summer, we booked our first beach vacation for next month in Ocean City, NJ! We are so excited to take Shane to the beach for a few days.

Tommy and I both love the beach and try to take a longer trip every year but we weren’t able to last year. We did go down for a day with Shane last year though. He loved it so hopefully he will this year as well!

If anyone has any tips on what to bring with us that will be helpful for being at the beach with a toddler, please let me know!

    Found here

I found this cleaning schedule at the beginning of the week and have been loving it! I have been feeling overwhelmed about getting everything done and this really simplifies it and makes it seem doable. I’m all for anything that will make my life simpler. 😉

Another favorite this week would be walks with my boy! As a SAHM sometimes I really just need to get out of the house and Shane really loves it as well so its a win-win for the both of us!

    Etsy shop here

I’m still loving working on the orders for our Etsy shop with my husband. There has been a learning curve for sure and hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine but I feel like we are really starting to get into a groove and have fun working together. Yay!

That’s all for this week. Linking up with Narci.

    Let’s Have Coffee | Vol. 16

Long time, no talk friends! Welcome to my new (old) blog! I changed the name of it officially woohoo! This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time but was intimidated by it to be honest. I finally bit the bullet and decided to do it and I’m so glad I did!

All of my content will basically be the same, I just wanted a name that I felt better suited what I was writing about. I plan to continue writing about motherhood, faith, and lifestyle. So let’s jump into today’s post shall we? Let’s have some coffee (or tea) and chat about how things have been going! It’s been too long!

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that I’ve been deciding whether or not I even want to continue blogging. I’ve definitely decided to keep it around and just share when I feel like it instead of pressuring myself to blog because that makes it not so fun for me and then I just don’t do it. I’m hoping with a different attitude maybe I’ll want to show up more often but if not I decided that’s okay too.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that Shane has been learning so much since his first birthday! He’s started walking and talking since then. It’s been so exciting! I really want to share a post soon about him and how much things have changed since his last update. He just turned 16 months old!

If we were having coffee, I’d share with you how God has really been teaching me how important it is to have a thankful heart even when things are hard. Or not how you want them to be. For me it’s so easy to think about how I want things to be and get impatient that they aren’t like that yet. And then soon my attitude is not one of thanksgiving, it’s one of impatience and frustration. God has really been helping me to find the joy in this season. Even when things are hard. Or not the way that I would want them to be.

If we were having coffee, I’d also share how I’m trying to find hobbies! Sounds random and funny almost. I realized the other day that I don’t really know what I like to do for fun. So I’ve been trying to think and try new things. I bought a book on how to make soap and am going to try that. It sounds super fun so I’m excited. I’m genuinely curious though, what do you like to do for fun??

If we were having coffee, I’d want to know how you are really doing? What are you celebrating lately? How can I pray for you? Please share in the comments! 🙂

What I Learned From My Social Media Detox

A little over a month ago I decided it was time I took a social media break. I decided that I would do 30 days and asked my husband to do it along with me. I learned a lot from those 30 days so I thought I’d share that with you here today!

Why I Decided To Do a Social Media Detox

The answer to this was pretty simple really. I decided I needed some time away from social media because I felt like it was consuming my life a bit. I felt super addicting to checking my phone and it was really starting to bother me. I also really wanted to see what else I would be doing if I wasn’t scrolling endlessly on my phone.

So I proposed to my husband that we do a 30 day social media detox and he eagerly agreed. What I’ve also noticed since then is a lot of people that I follow online are talking about either needing to do the same or should do the same. It seems we all are feeling a bit overly attached to our phones.

What I Learned From My Detox: The Comparison Trap

The most important thing I learned over those 30 days was that the comparison trap of social media affected me waaaaay more than I had ever realized.

For me, this mostly had to do with working on my Etsy shop. I’ve always wanted to work from home. So naturally I’ve found a lot of women online that do work from home and have started following their lives hoping to learn something from them to make that possible for me.

What I honestly didn’t realize was that watching their lives so often was completely paralyzing me from really working hard at what I wanted.

I realized that because I’m just starting out on my business venture that watching people who already have what I want makes me feel really badly about myself. Crazy right? I already knew that this is a long time complaint of social media. That people feel badly about their own lives after being on social media. But to be completely honest, I didn’t know I was one of them until I did this social media detox.

Because for me, I realized that they aren’t conscious thoughts that are causing me to think these things. Like I never had the thought, “I’ll never have that.” or “I feel really badly for not having that yet.” after being on social media.

What I realized was that they were just feelings I would get as I was scrolling. I never would fully dwell on them long enough to even realize it was happening but after taking the 30 day break I could see it so much clearer.

Because in those 30 days I got so much done. I worked hard on my Etsy shop and actually did the things that I had planned to do for it for so long. I didn’t feel badly about where I was and I didn’t second guess myself. I just worked hard and felt good about it.

    Jumping Back In

So what have I done now that I’ve learned this? That’s the hard part for me because I feel like staying off social media would be really good for me honestly. But the thing is I don’t want to stay off social media for good.

I enjoy following along with my “online friends” but I definitely realized something had to change.

One major thing I did was to unfollow (or mute) so many people I was following. I went through everyone and basically asked myself why I was following that person. If I didn’t have a good reason then I unfollowed. I unfollowed or muted a lot of people that I knew as acquaintances because our time is valuable. I realized that if I was going to spend time on Instagram then I didn’t want it to be time wasted. If someone encouraged me or if they were a real friend who I genuinely cared about what was going on in their life, then I kept following.

This has helped a bit and I am definitely more conscious of the comparison trap when it’s happening now. I also have decided to take more social media breaks more often. Once a week, my husband and I stay off social media completely on Saturdays and I feel like this helps a lot too.

So have you ever taken a social media break? What have you learned? I’d love to hear your experience with this!

    Friday Favorites | Vol. 9

I haven’t done a Friday Favorites since August 18, 2017!!! But I want to start doing them more consistently. I think it’ll be a fun way to incorporate a little bit of our day-to-day into the blog every week!

    o n e

FEELING LIKE A HUMAN AGAIN! I intended to start this post last Friday but we all came down with the stomach bug last week!! It was horrible! But I’m so thankful for all of us to be feeling better again and to get back into our regular routine. You really don’t realize how thankful you are for the mundane life until you get sick or something not so great happens!

Packing away baby things! While part of me is sad that Shane is getting further and further from the baby stage, part of me is excited to move on. I had a pretty hard first year as a mom (as I’ve mentioned before), and it’s been really fun to get my footing a little more and move past the hard times.

Anyways, I’m looking for a better way to store these bottles. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking of buying a plastic storage container with a lid. I feel like maybe that’s the best way to do it.

Outings with my boy! 🙂 We are in the transition from switching from two to one nap so I’ve been trying to get out of the house more otherwise I run out of things to do with him by 10 am. 😅

It’s been so much fun getting out and just running errands with Shane. It’s great for him too. He’s in this adorable phase where he’s pointing at everything and saying “dat” so we will tell him what it is. You should have heard him in Target!

Get Chicken Quesadillas Recipe from Food Network
    picture via

I am probably so late to the game on this but we’ve just recently been really enjoying quesadillas. I feel like this is probably a staple in many people’s houses and it’s definitely become one in ours! We’ve used this recipe and they come out great every time! What are some staples in your houses? I’m always looking for some easy but delicious meals to make!

We have been loving Little Blue Truck lately. Shane just loves to read and particularly loves this one. We started out with Little Blue Truck’s Halloween and I meant to pick up the Christmas one but never did. Then I saw the classic one in the store a few weeks ago and just had to get it for him. And now it’s all he wants to read! 😂

I’m always looking for new books for him too because we are slowly building his collection. What books are your kids favorites?

    Scheming //

According to google, the definition of scheming is: “given to or involved in making secret and underhanded plans.” So according to this definition I suppose I’ve been sort of scheming new ways to grow our Etsy shop.

We’ve been working with other bloggers and have a few collabs set up for over the next month or so. I’m super excited to see how this affects our shop’s growth. We’ve been getting roughly one sale a week for a while now so I’m interested to see if there is any growth after our collabs. 😊

    Reading //

I honestly haven’t been reading anything the past month or so. I really like reading but I have a little bit of an obsessive personality so when I start a book all I do is just read all the time. I have a hard time focusing on other things because all I want is to find out what happens in the book!

Hopefully I can learn a little bit of self-control and can start reading here and there and also do other things as well so I can read a bit more consistently.

    Buying //

I had to check my recent Amazon orders to answer this. So in short, not much!

But I did order a couple practical things for our home. Sponge holders?? I bought this little basket for our kitchen sink and these hooks for the shower. And while they are small and may seem insignificant, those types of things give me joy. 🤣 I love when everything has it’s own place!

    Making //

I’m hoping to make some yummy muffins this week. I would like to make a healthy, filling muffin to give to both my very picky one year old and my husband to take to work. Let me know if you have any good suggestions!!

I used to make these a bunch and am thinking about making them again soon.

    Accomplishing //

I’ve already touched on this a bit but accomplishing growing our Etsy shop. I’ve been adding a few new items and it’s been really fun and fulfilling to have a little side thing in addition to being a stay-at-home mom. I’m so thankful to have a place to work and make just a little bit of extra money for our family!

What about you? Do you have a “side hustle”? I honestly hate that phrase but I’m not sure what else to call it haha. If you don’t, do you want one? I know not everyone even has the desire (or time!) to have one.

    Linking up with Anne today.

    What’s Up Wednesday / Feb 2019

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a What’s Up Wednesday but it is still one of my favorite linkups — especially to look back on years later!

What We Are Eating This Week:

Crock Pot Sausage and Peppers are perfect for game day, a cozy supper at home, or any night you're craving an Italian feast! Serve over pasta, or with provolone and crusty rolls. | iowagirleats.com
    Image + recipe
    • I am planning on making this recipe of Sausage and Peppers tonight except serve it on long rolls instead. I have made it soo many times. It’s honestly so delicious!
    • I also think I’m going to making these quesadillas this week as well. I just found this recipe and starting making quesadillas a few weeks ago and OMG. So good!

    What I’m Reminiscing About:

Our first year married! 3 years ago! I can’t even believe it’s been that long. As I mentioned in my 2019 goals, my plans have been to organize all.the.things. So that’s what I’ve been doing and while deleted emails (from 2016) I came across all of the ones from when we were getting married. All of the wedding preparations and moving into our first apartment (which I still miss so very much). It was so fun to look back on.

    What I’m Loving:

Honestly, just having so much more of a consistent routine with Shane. I feel so much more back to my “old self” as a second year mom than I did his first year. The first year was so hard for me especially since struggling so much with breastfeeding and I’m just so happy to finally feel settled into being a mom. And to be able to focus on others things along with being a mom.

    What We’ve Been Up To:

Purging + Etsy mostly. Oh and I mentioned this yesterday but we are also doing a 30 day social media detox. It’s been so great and also a little bit hard. I will definitely share more when it’s over in a few weeks.

    What I’m Dreading:

Shane’s one year blood work. 😢 I still need to call and make the appointment but am definitely not looking forward to having to take him for that!

    What I’m Working On:

    Fruit + Veggie Organizer

Lots and lots and lots of Etsy. I’ve been having so much fun creating new products for our Etsy shop. We also have four (!!!) collabs set up with other bloggers within the next month or so! I can’t wait!

    What I’m Excited About:

The weather to finally start warming up! Especially since Shane will be walking soon and we can start going outside more and playing! I have a feeling it’s going to be a really fun summer.

    What I’m Watching/Reading:

    • We’ve been watching The Good Doctor, This Is Us, and How To Get Away With Murder.
    • I recently read All The Little Lights and it was pretty good!

    What I’m Listening To:

    Website

I’ve been listening to Risen Motherhood quite a bit lately. Some episodes are better than others in my opinion but it’s awesome to have a place to go to listen to Godly wisdom when it comes to motherhood.

    What I’m Wearing:

These pajamas pants!! I finally broke down and stopped wearing my ratty sweatpants from high school 😅 to sleep in and bought a pair of these and omg they are amazing. So much more comfortable than those old sweatpants and so much cuter!

    What I’m Doing This Weekend:

Hmm I’m not sure we have any set plans this weekend. We definitely will be working on those Etsy collabs though!

What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month:

I kind of mentioned this earlier but honestly just for winter to finally be over. March is my least favorite month because there’s nothing exciting going on and it’s the last month before warn weather is back.

I think that’s about it for this month. I’m linking up with Shay + Shaeffer today. Come join us. 🙂
