    Shane Thomas: Seven Months

Okay so Shane officially turns eight months old tomorrow so uh this is a little bit late. Oops. Better late than never though I guess. I did update in his baby book and take pictures on time so at least the information is on time. 😉

I am going to be using the information that I recorded in Shane’s baby book for this update.

STATS: I don’t know exactly how much Shane weighs but I know he’s growing right on track still because I weigh him every once in a while and keep track of how much he’s gaining.

Shane laughs when… when we act like we are going to “get him”. He gets slightly scared and laughs so much. He’s also quite ticklish so he laughs when we tickle him as well.

Sleep + Schedule: His sleep and schedule is just about the same as last month. If you missed that post, you can check it out here. The only difference is that he has dropped a nap and also a bottle. He generally only naps twice a day and takes three 2 ounce bottles of formula.

What do people point out about your baby? How happy he is, how big his eyes are, and how much he looks like his daddy.

    Us at Lake George 🙂

New Trips We’ve Taken: We took our first family vacation to Lake George this month! Traveling with a baby is quite the experience though. Shane did great on the car rides both to and from Lake George. (It takes about 3 hours to get there.) Although it’s quite interesting taking care of him when we aren’t at home.

Does your baby have any teeth? Nope, still nothing!

Solids: Shane still absolutely love eating. He’s had many new foods this month although I don’t know exactly which ones because I haven’t been keeping track.

That’s all for this month! Check back soon though because his 8 month update should be up shortly. This next month was a big one!

    Shane Thomas: Six Months

Welp guys I’ve dropped the ball this month on blogging. Something I have not blogged about yet is that Tommy and I are starting our own furniture business through Etsy. This is honestly the reason that blogging has been taking a backseat. We are trying hard to get the shop up and running as fast as possible so every bit of free time I’ve had has been working towards that.

To be honest for the first time ever, I’ve reconsidered if I even wanted to keep blogging, but for now I definitely want to. Even if that means for a while that I am only about to get one or two posts up a month. I think eventually I will be able to blog more often – when Shane doesn’t need me quite so much.

Anyways, speaking of Shane, let’s jump right into his update! Oh and also, I decided to change up the format of these updates. That was another reason why I haven’t blogged, the format I was using I didn’t like so it made me not really want to do these updates. I have been filling out a baby book for him so I am going to use that as a format for these as well.

STATS: At Shane’s six month doctor’s appointment he weighed 14 pounds 10 ounces (5%). He was 26 inches tall (20%) and his head size was 16.5 inches (11%). He’s just a little guy like his daddy and I.

New Foods: oatmeal, strawberries, and sweet potatoes

How does your baby like solid foods? Shane looooves eating solids. He particularly likes eating sweet foods, like most babies I believe. It’s been really fun feeding him new foods and seeing his reaction to them.

Sleep: Shane has always been a decent sleeper. This month he has started wanting to stay up and play for an hour or two in the middle of the night, which has not been fun. 😅(Only on some nights, thank God!)

Does your baby sleep through the night? I have been avoiding this question on the blog (and in real life if I’m being honest) because I may be one of the only parents who doesn’t want Shane to sleep through the night. Say whaaat?! I KNOW. But there is good reason for it. So Shane is mostly breastfed, but also gets about 6-8 ounces of formula a day. If I cut out his nighttime feed then he would need about 4-6 more ounces of formula a day, which honestly is totally fine. But my goal has been to provide as much of his daily milk as I can so that means I will dreamfeed him in the middle of the night so that he can get that extra amount of breastmilk. I know there many be some people who won’t understand this but then again I know that there will be some people who will. It’s just personally a sacrifice I do not mind doing for Shane and I actually love that I am able to do, so for now it works for us.

DAILY SCHEDULE (24hr: food + naps):

    • 8:30-9:30am: Wake up, nurse, take the dog out, play while mommy eats her breakfast.
    • 10-11am: Nurse, 2 oz bottle of formula, nap
    • 12-1pm: Wake up + nurse + 1-2 oz of solids sometime before next nap
    • 2-3pm: Nurse, 2 oz bottle of formula, nap
    • 4-5pm: Wake up + nurse
    • 6-6:30pm: Nurse, 2 oz bottle of formula, nap
    • 6:30-7pm: Wake up + 1-2 oz of solids sometime before bed
    • 8:30pm: Nurse, 2 oz bottle of formula, down for the night
    • 12:30-1:30am: Nurse + back to sleep
    • 4:30-5:30am: Nurse + back to sleep (sometimes right away, sometimes it takes about an hour)

Just keep in mind this is a pretty rough schedule. Sometimes Shane doesn’t want to take his last nap, sometimes we are very busy and only get around to giving him solids once a day, sometimes he only takes an hour and a half nap. But for the most part this is the schedule we follow most days.

Does your baby have any teeth? Nope! Still waiting on our teeth, which is A-Okay with mommy. 😉

LOVES: His puppy, being in water, his mommy, and eating!

Describe your baby’s temperament and disposition: Shane is such a happy baby! But he also knows what he wants and definitely lets us know what that is too.

Favorite toys this month: This turtle toy, Skip Hop activity table, + this teether. (affiliate links)

That’s all for this month friends! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

    Shane Thomas: Five Months

It’s about time for Shane’s five month update! (Since we’re two weeks late 😅.) This month everything finally seems to feel even more normal. Let’s jump right in!

Size: I do weigh Shane at home but I don’t have his exact weight for when he turned five months old. He is still in 3-6 month clothes and moved up to size 3 diapers.

Sleep: Shane is a pretty decent sleeper. He takes 3 naps during the day and wakes up around 1:30-2:30am and again around 5:30-6:30am. During his first two naps he usually wakes up halfway through and we have to rock him back to sleep but he will usually sleep for about 1.5-2 hours. His last nap of the day is usually around 20-30mins.

Loves: Mommy and daddy, playtime, his puppy, and being held in his carrier on mommy.

    Hates: Being tired

    Milestones:

    • We have lots of fun milestones from this past month! We went on our first plane right this month to Florida to visit my grandparents. Shane did so well on the plane both times and also did well while in Florida. His sleep was a bit disrupted but nothing too terrible. He got to meet my grandparents for the first time and it was so special! I was going to just add the pictures for the trip into this months recap but I was just looking through them and decided I’m just going to do a separate post on our trip since I have more pictures than I thought!
    • We also started solids this month! So far Shane has tried bananas and avocado and I can’t tell if he loves them or not haha. He doesn’t show too much of a reaction but he does keep opening his mouth for more so it seems like he likes them. It’s been so fun to feed him and I can’t wait to keep introducing new foods to him!

So that’s about it for this month! I cannot believe how much he’s grown! Where did my baby go?!

    Shane Thomas: Four Months

Hi guys! This post is so late, but better late than never right! 😉 This month has been such a busy one. We just came back from a week-long vacation to Florida to visit my grandparents and before that we were so busy just preparing for the trip. I will share all about how that went in either a vacation recap or in Shane’s 5 month update. He did so great, but traveling with a baby is exhausting – holy cow lol. Anyways, here’s his 4 month update. I can’t believe how fast time is flying by!

Size: At his four month doctor’s appointment he was exactly 13 pounds on the dot. He was 24.5 inches long and his head was 15.7 inches. He is now in 3-6 month clothes or just 6 month clothes in some brands and size 2 diapers. I can’t believe how big he is already!

Sleep: Sleep has been about the same as last month. He wakes up just once to eat around 1-2 am. He then almost always wakes up at 5 and I usually bring him to bed with me since Tommy has already left for work. I usually can get him back to sleep without feeding him, but sometimes I have to nurse him again at this time.

His naps have been wonderful the past month though. He sleeps for about 2-2.5 hours for this first 2 naps and about 40 mins for his last nap before bed around 8-9.

I always thought I was going to be one of those moms who had a very strict schedule when it came to eating and sleeping but I’m not like that at all. Normally Shane’s up for about 1.5-2 hours before going back down for a nap. I realized that it’s honestly much less stressful to not try to keep everything exactly at the same time. I realized that once he’s older it might be a lot easier to do this and more important so we will be more strict with times when I feel it’s necessary. This loose schedule works really well for us now so I don’t want to change it at all.

Loves: Shane still loves when his daddy comes home from work. You can always tell how happy he is, it’s so cute. He also loves when you sing to him. Honestly he loves most things, he is a super happy baby.

Hates: Honestly the only thing I can say that he hates is being overly tired but I’m pretty sure that’s any baby. If he gets too tired, he will literally start yelling at me to put him down for a nap. It’s actually kind of funny.

Milestones: Shane’s personality has really started to shine through this month. He’s grown so much it’s crazy. He really lets us know now when he wants or doesn’t want something.

Shane can interact a lot more now and play a lot more with his toys and it’s so much fun.

He also laughs a lot more this month and can really recognize his parents. We love him so very much!

PS. I definitely will be sharing our breastfeeding journey eventually. It has honestly been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve learned so much about being a mom from going through these struggles. I haven’t been able to exactly put it into words just yet, but I think I’m getting there! 😉

    Newborn Essentials: Age 0-3 Months

Hi friends! It has been way too long! I am loving mom life but it is kicking my butt! Any free time I have, all I want to do is drink a cup of coffee and veg out in front of the TV. So that’s what I’ve been doing with no shame because mom life is exhausting but I’d really love to start blogging again. Today I’m sharing with you what was absolute essentials for us during Shane’s first three months of life.

(These links are affiliate links, which means I make a small commission if you purchase anything using them but the cost does not change for you!)

ONE: Comotomo Baby Bottle If you are planning on breastfeeding, these bottles are absolutely awesome. I have used these bottles from the first week of my baby’s life and he has gone back and forth between bottle and breast using Comotomo bottles for four months now. They are also SO easy to clean, which is an added bonus!

TWO: Skip Hop Activity Gym– This play gym has been a lifesaver for me. For the past two months, Shane has LOVED his play gym. When I need to eat breakfast or lunch, I just lay him on his play gym and he goes to town playing. It can keep him busy for so long!

THREE: Velcro Swaddles– Oh my gosh, velcro swaddles are such a lifesaver too! I especially love the ones that you can choose whether or not you swaddle with the arms in or out.

FOUR: Sleepers– Some people prefer zipper sleepers over button ones but I think each has their own benefits. The zipper ones are a bit faster but the button ones are nice because you can only open the bottom half of the sleeper and don’t have to expose your baby’s entire chest when changing their diaper.

FIVE: Yoga Ball– This one may seem random but oh my gosh we would not have survived without it in those early newborn days. For the last month of my pregnancy I used a yoga ball to try to encourage labor to start. I think this made the motion of bouncing comforting to Shane after he was born. Honestly the only way we could get him to sleep was to hold him upright on the ball and bounce. A. Complete. Lifesaver.

SIX: Graco Pack ‘n Play– We actually haven’t used the bassinet attachment for the pack ‘n play yet but we will a lot this summer since we plan to do some traveling. The reason why it made my essential list though is because the attachments that it comes with have been so great. If I need to put Shane down for just a few minutes (i.e. to use the bathroom, get a drink, make a bottle) the napper attachment has been a great help for that. The changing pad has been an even bigger lifesaver. We change 95% of Shane’s diapers on here. It’s also great because you can just wipe it clean when diaper changes go south. 🤣

SEVEN: Fisher-Price Soothing Motion Bassinet– This bassinet has been AWESOME. Shane has slept in it every night since he’s been born. We love it especially because it has a vibrate function that we turn on after we have laid him down asleep. It definitely helps him to stay asleep and not wake back up as soon as we lay him down. It’s nice too because the vibrate turns off after 30 mins so the batteries don’t run out too quickly. It also has a night-light that you can turn on in the middle of the night if you need to check on baby. It also has nature sounds, music, and a projector. We don’t use those features but they are still really nice to have.

EIGHT: Extra gift cards/money- This is another suggestion that I have not seen on a newborn essentials post or video but was absolutely essential for us. Since babies all have their own preferences for things, sometimes we get things wrong when preparing for baby. I would highly, highly suggest having either savings you are okay with using or extra gift cards because we had so many instances where we needed things we didn’t realize we needed before having our baby. Having a savings that we weren’t afraid to touch was HUGE for us.

I hope this was helpful! Just remember though that every baby and mama is different so what worked for us might not work at all for you. That’s the beauty of being a mama – learning what is best for our little ones. It can be stressful at times but is super rewarding when we finally get it right! 😉 What is on your newborn essentials list? I’d love to know!

    Shane Thomas: Three Months

Size: Shane weights 11 lbs 13 ozs and is in size 0-3 month clothes. He also still wears size 1 diapers. I feel like every once in a while I look at him and it feels like he’s grown so much overnight.

Blurry, but so cute I had to include it

Sleep: He really likes to keep us on our toes with sleep. Every time we think we have it down, he decides he doesn’t want to sleep well for the next week. For the most part though, he’s a pretty good sleeper at night – it’s during naps that he doesn’t really seem to want to stay asleep.

His favorite place to sleep is definitely our chests 🙂

Loves: Shane loves playing on his play mat, when his daddy comes home from work, his grandma, and being sung to.

Hates: Shane is a pretty easy-going baby. There are only a few things that make him upset – being hot and the sun in his eyes.

Milestones: Just a few days before Shane turned three months old he started giggling! It’s still kind of hard to make him laugh but it is magical when he does. 🙂

He also started sitting up in his Bumbo and joined us for dinner, which was super fun!

We also had his first Easter this month, which was so much fun!

    Easter 🙂

And just for fun, here is a side by side of Shane the past three months! It’s funny because he almost looks thinner in his three-month picture – but he’s two pounds heavier. 🤔

Each month just keeps getting more and more fun and we are just loving watching him grow!
